LinkShare Symposium UK 2011 - Our best event yet!

 

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS


Symposium UK 2011 was our largest UK event yet!  Our third annual Symposium in London brought together 380 attendees at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, in Westminster, to put their networking skills to the test.

The day was themed around three key areas – Trends, Technology and the all important Networking.  Symposium UK provided Advertisers and Publishers from over 280 individual companies with incredible opportunities to grow their businesses together and many attendees remarked throughout the event that this was the best Symposium UK ever, which is something we always love to hear!

Trends in Digital Marketing and how this is shaping the current E-commerce landscape

Jonathan MacDonald kicked off the event in style, taking us through the latest trends emerging in the digital space with a witty and inspiring presentation. Through some great case studies and clever insights, for which he is famed, Jonathan provided Advertisers and Publishers with some new information and good tips to think about for all online marketing channels. His presentation certainly created a fantastic buzz within the first networking break and the energy stayed in the room throughout the day’s events.

Technology: Mobile Opportunities in Affiliate Marketing

Next up, David Murphy, the Founder and Editor of Mobile Marketing Magazine, opened the mobile session by putting forward some interesting pieces of data that summed up the current state of mobile marketing and its role in all aspects of e-commerce. For example 10% of all bets with Paddy Power are now via Mobile and 1 in 5 visits to an eCommerce site in December 2010 originated from a mobile device.

Next up David introduced his panel formed of Ben Brown (Vouchacha), Pete Newman (Found), Jason Mahon (Glamoo) and Iman Ramani (Saveme4later). Overall there were some good insights on the Mobile panel, providing some practical advice, especially to advertisers who must begin to put mobile on the top of their ‘To do’ lists.  The panel also shared some great insights about the hurdles they have had to overcome to put their mobile strategy in place to be successful from a Publisher perspective. As this is a space is coming out of its infancy, it's great to hear the thoughts from experts in the mobile field. All in all, a great panel of speakers!

Affiliate Marketing Insights Panel

After a busy lunch break, Nick Troup (Charles Tyrwhitt), Simon Bird (Savoo) and Jess Markwood (OSOYOU) joined forces for the Affiliate Marketing Panel. What was clear from the panel was that Advertisers are keener than ever to engage with Publishers and are looking for ways in which to improve their businesses from Data Feeds to Promotions to become the Advertiser of choice amongst Publishers. Though perhaps not ground-breaking in content the panel provided the audience with an overview of the different perspectives, and gained some valuable things to look at when they got back to the office.

Dealmaker

Our busiest Dealmaker yet saw attendees make their way through over 30 different sponsor tables. A great mix of Advertisers and Publishers who are new to the network as well as long established partners provided for an exciting and vibrant afternoon of discovery, information sharing, and of course Dealmaking!

Even after two and a half hours of Dealmaker the room was still buzzing at 5.30pm as several sponsors, including Links of London, Silverbean, Hotwire & Lego, closed the session by raffling off some fantastic prizes to the lucky winners!

Celebrating a great day

To wrap-up a fantastic day, over 150 attendees gathered at the Opal Bar in Embankment to celebrate and continue the many conversations already started in a more relaxed environment. Some of the more energetic attendees were partying late into the night after a long and successful day of meeting new partners and perhaps even friends!
